  Los Angeles Black Music Awards Pays Tribute to Jazz At Drew
 
 

 

 
 

On February 11, 2006 the Los Angeles Black Music Awards (BMA) will honor Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and Roland H. Betts, Founder and Executive Producer of Jazz At Drew with its Living Legends Award.

Each year the BMA recognizes those who have made a significant accomplishment in all categories of music. In this its fifth year, the BMA has chosen to pay tribute to Jazz At Drew, one of Southern California's most popular music events, as it continues its efforts of Building Cultural Bridges Through Music “Highlighting the Healing Art of Medicine and Music.”

Established with the objective of providing financial support to the University which will expand the opportunity for medical education
 
  for minorities, Jazz At Drew, through the assistance of major corporate sponsorships from American Honda and Northrop Grumman, has become a vehicle that provides an opportunity and awareness of the University while bringing together a stellar lineup of Jazz and R & B greats.  
     
  The event, scheduled to begin with the Red Carpet VIP arrivals at 5:00 p.m. and the show Begin at 6:00 pm, will take place at the Wilshire Ebell Theater, located at 4401 W. 8 th Street in Los Angeles , and will also honor:  
     
  2006 Hall Of Fame Inductees: Ice T; Clarence Johnston; Etta James; Roy Ayers;
2006 Living Legend Award Honorees
: Telma Hopkins; George Duke; Evelyn “ Champagne” King; and Bobby Womack
2006 Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree
: The Reverend Cecil Murray
2006 American Institution Award Honorees:
Smokey Robinson and The Miracles
