Campaign for the Life Sciences Research Center

To build on its exceptional faculty and resources, Drew is engaged in a major effort to raise $40 million to construct and furnish a new Life Sciences Research Building. The cost of building and outfitting the facility stands at $30 million. However, an additional $10 million is needed for endowment of maintenance, equipment upgrades and program support to assure the continued progress of the research programs conducted in the facility.
The Life Sciences Center will provide centralized modern facilities for basic “wet lab” research, clinical patient oriented research, and population-based “dry lab” research. The facility features
more than 45,000 gross square feet and will consist of laboratory modules, animal care facility, faculty offices, conference rooms and common spaces for researchers and students. The facility
will bring researchers together under one roof to promote interdisciplinary collaboration providing a crucial link in exploring the interface between health, social and economic infrastructure, cultural attitudes and legislative policy.
The addition of the Life Sciences Research Building will allow the University to dramatically increase research addressing the genetic foundations of disease, gene therapy, genetic epidemiology and genetic counseling. Clinical research, particularly clinical trials, can also expand and grow to meet the anticipated future demand. Population-based research, especially studies of racial and ethnic disparities, health service delivery and treatment outcomes, is particularly important for the population served by the University will also expand.
Location and Design
Located near the center of campus, adjacent to and east of Cobb Medical Educational Building, the Life Sciences Research Building will occupy a key University location. After a highly competitive search, Drew selected the highly regarded international architect firm Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (HO+K) to design the new building.
The goal of the Life Sciences Research Building Campaign is to build a technologically advanced Life Sciences Research facility which will further medical research to help save lives in poor, ethnically diverse populations. It will serve as a common home for the best and the brightest to exchange knowledge and ideas, cooperate in joint studies, teach, and perform high quality research. Philanthropic support of this campaign is one way to invest in improving the health of the nation’s many ethnically diverse and underserved communities.
The Life Sciences Research Building will serve as a gateway to new possibilities in enhancing the training of health professionals who desire to provide excellent, compassionate care to underserved and ethnic communities. By making a gift to this campaign, you will provide unlimited opportunities for students and trainees, and boundless hope for countless people facing devastating disease and illness here and abroad.
We invite you to make a philanthropic investment in the Life Sciences Research Building Campaign today. For more information on how you can support this project, please contact: |
